節分は毎年２月３日だと思っていましたが、実は2021年は２月２日でした！
なんと、節分が２月２日になったのは 124年ぶりだったらしいです！

節分について
- Setsubun is the day to celebrate Risshun, which means the start of spring.
節分は、立春(春の始まり)を祝うための日です。 - Risshun is the beginning of spring in the lunar calendar, which is the old Japanese calendar.
立春は、太陰暦（日本の旧暦）で春が始まる日のことです。 - In the old days, the Japanese new year started on Risshun.
昔は、日本の新年は立春から始まっていました。 - Setsubun held on the day before Risshun.
節分は、立春の前日にあります。 - Setsubun usually held on February 3rd, but in 2021 it was on February 2nd.

豆まきについて
- The main ritual of Setsubun is Mamemaki, which means “bean scattering”.
節分の主な儀式は豆まきで、「豆をまく」という意味です。 - Beans are scattered in the front of the door of your house for good luck.
豆は 幸運のために家のドアの前でまかれます。 - People say “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!” when throwing beans away. This phrase means “Deamon begone! Good luck come in!”.
豆をまくときには、「鬼は外！福はうち！」と言います。これは「悪魔よ去れ！幸運よ来い！」という意味です。 - We use roasted soy beans, which is called “Fukumame”, for this ritual. Fukumame means “lucky beans”.
この儀式には「福豆」と呼ばれる、炒った大豆を使います。福豆とは「幸運な豆」という意味があります。 - On Setsubun it is customary to eat one more roasted soybean than your age. It is believed to keep you from sickness and stay healthy for the whole year.
節分の日には、自分の年より１つ多い数の福豆を食べる習慣があります。そうすると、その１年間 病気にならず、健康でいられると言われています。
恵方巻きについて
- Ehomaki is a special sushi roll for Setsubun.
恵方巻きとは、節分のための特別な巻き寿司です。 - “Ehomaki” literally means “lucky direction roll”.
「恵方巻き」とは「幸運な方角の巻き寿司」という意味です。 - We face the year’s lucky direction, make a wish, and eat Ehomaki quietly.
その年の幸運な方角に向かって願いをして、静かに恵方巻きを食べます。 - The lucky direction, which is called “Eho”, changes every year.
「恵方」と呼ばれる 幸運な方角は、毎年変わります。 - This year’s direction is south-southeast.
今年の恵方は南南東です。 - Ehomaki is a thick sushi roll that is used seven ingredients.
恵方巻きは太い巻き寿司で、７種類の具が使われています。 - It represents the seven gods of fortune in Japanese mythology.
日本の神話に出てくる七福神に因んでいます。 - It is believed that good luck will come by rolling the seven ingredients into the sushi.
７つの具を巻くことで、幸運がやってくると言われています。 - We don’t cut Ehomaki so that relationships are not cut off.
恵方巻きは切りません。そうすることで、縁が切れない とされています。
